The Department of Homeland Security will be amending its DHS Stem Designated Degree Program list by adding 22 qualifying fields of study and a corresponding CIP code. The regulation will be published Friday, January 21, 2022. This list is used to determine whether an F-1 student’s degree qualifies as a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) degree for the F-1 student to be eligible to apply for a 24-month extension of their post-completion optional practical training (STEM OPT). To put it simply, F-1 students with the following 22 degrees and corresponding CIP code will now be eligible to apply for a STEM OPT EAD card.
