SEVP Issues Broadcast Message to DSO's to Assist F-1 Students with OPT Applications

Yesterday SEVP issued a broadcast message to DSO's regarding an important reminder for F-1 students and their OPT applications.

F-1 students must file their Form I-765 for optional practical training (OPT) within the 30-day period after the DSO:

1. Authorizes the student for OPT in SEVIS; and

2. Provides the student with an updated Form I-20 endorsed for OPT.

As a reminder, DSOs must complete these two steps before the student files the Form I-765. DSO's should ensure that students applying for OPT are aware of these requirements and file their Form I-765 along with all required documentation within the specified 30-day period.
